Joel Turner is a Senior Technical Advisor for Information & Media at IREX, designing approaches that strengthen information integrity and resilience among individuals and within communities.
With over 15 years of experience in program design, operations, and implementation, Joel brings technical experience in digital tools for learning, media and digital literacy, and library systems globally. Joel currently manages a portfolio of media development and information integrity programs in Asia and Europe. In Indonesia, Joel has led the design and execution of multiple innovative approaches to building resilience to disinformation, through online lessons, video content, and gamified approaches.
Previously, Joel was IREX’s country director for Namibia, providing strategic planning and advisory services to the Namibia Ministry of Education. Prior to joining IREX, Joel worked with the Technology & Social Change group (TASCHA) at the University of Washington, researching the impact of public access to technology and access to the internet in resource-constrained environments. Joel served in the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, engaging communities in constructive dialogue about gender inclusion in the formal education sector. Joel holds a BA in political science and sociology from Colorado State University and a MA in library and information science from the University of Washington.
