Dr Tyanai Masiya serves as the Regional Coordinator at the Center for Research and Development, a Zimbabwe-based NGO that works to ensure human rights, transparency, and accountability in the extractive industry in Zimbabwe. While in the U.S., Dr Masiya worked for the U.S. government’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Washington, DC, where he provided general support to the agency’s many areas of focus, including land policy and management, communications, minerals, renewable resources, Native American affairs, and regulatory affairs. Upon returning to Zimbabwe, Dr Masiya conducted a comparative analysis of mining policies in the U.S. and Zimbabwe in order to provide policy recommendations on how the government of Zimbabwe could reform its approach to mining and mineral extraction.
