Uganda, Environmental Issues, Women and Gender Issues, 2012

As the Director at FREDA-AFRICA, Travis Bogere works on projects related to women’s rights, public health, and economic development. As a core part of Bogere’s work, he focuses on assessing health and economic needs pertinent to the local community. He works closely with the local community, providing a sense of ownership of projects. As a fellow at the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, he participated in domestic violence intervention trainings, learned to engage men and boys in gender socialization, and worked on curriculum development. Upon returning to Uganda, Bogere focused on shifting the attitudes that perpetuate and condone domestic violence within Uganda, especially among social, religious and other community leaders.
