Shallona Shallowe is a Director of the North Eastern Dragon Boat Association (NEDBA), a newly developed nongovernmental organization in a rural community of Trinidad. Shallowe’s work focuses on building both human and financial resources, increasing youth sport participation in rural communities, and establishing a training center for NEDBA. Shallowe has also worked closely with the Kicking AIDS Out Secretariat in South Africa and contributed to the initial review of the Kicking AIDS Out policies and branding guidelines. While in the U.S., Shallowe worked with Girls Inc. of Greater Houston in Texas, delivering leadership and STEM programs to girls in elementary and middle school. She also successfully solicited a large donation for a girls’ soccer team. Following the Community Solutions Program, Shallowe focused her work on empowering young girls by initiating a project called Bold Leaders Circle and implementing youth sport dragon boat racing programs in the Salybia community with concentration on sports leadership and sports development.
