As a co-founder of Zimbabwe Poets for Human Rights (ZPHR), Robson Shoes works in the community, using the arts as a tool to mobilize young people to participate in development issues that affect them. Shoes has worked with artists from different fields like theatre, poetry, and music to create a society that all young people would like to inhabit. Serving as fellow at the Center for Intercultural Organizing in Portland, Oregon, Shoes concentrated on issues pertaining to tolerance and conflict resolution. As an alumnus of the Community Solutions Program now returned to Zimbabwe, he is working on a project to encourage community members to participate meaningfully in the local authority budgeting process.
