As a Research Counsellor for the Infectious Disease Research Collaboration, Penlope Kobugabe is working on the SEARCH project (Sustainable East Africa Research in Community Health), which is aimed at improving the entire continuum of care, reducing structural barriers, and building upon evidence based prevention intervention of HIV/AIDS. Previously, her work focused on reducing HIV/AIDS infection in children, and, more specifically, on counseling expectant mothers and their partners to help them access community counseling centers. As a fellow at the AIDS Community Research Institute of America in New York City, Kobugabe learned how to design and package HIV prevention messages. Following the Community Solutions Program, she focused on educating women over 50 years of age on HIV prevention and the importance of testing.
