As a Project Coordinator at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) program in Nepal, Padam Pariyar works with the Disabled Peoples' Organizations to empower and support persons with disabilities in their increased participation in electoral processes. He has been developing and facilitating capacity building sessions and helping their associations to coordinate and advocate with government agencies for inclusive electoral laws and policies in Nepal. In addition, he is currently helping the children of a Dalit (Known as untouchable people in Nepal) village in Tanahun district to pass their school level certificate exams. During his fellowship, Pariyar worked with the U.S. International Council on Disabilities (USICD) in Washington, DC, where he developed a white paper on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, trained 30 human rights advocates, including 10 from Nepalese organizations, on accessing the Global Disability Rights Library, and contributed three news articles for the USICD monthly newsletter. Upon return to Nepal, Pariyar implemented a follow-on project that assisted many Conflict Induced Persons with Disabilities living in Tanahun district of Nepal in getting services and benefits from the government of Nepal.
