Massa Aboujeib is a painter, graphic designer, art university teacher and children’s book illustrator who works on art therapy initiatives in schools and communities to help children and women express their feelings through art. Massa was first introduced to the concept of art therapy in Syria during the protracted civil conflict, and is pioneering peace through art. She founded Syria's“Draw & Smile “ program to support traumatized children affected by war and bring a smile to their hearts and faces. Her books highlight humanitarian values based on respect, tolerance, equality , compatibility and dialogue. She is passionate about supporting children's development and has launched projects to promote a culture of peace among children both locally and internationally. During her fellowship in the United States, Massa hopes to learn new tools to achieve peace through art, develop her skills in art-project monitoring and management, participate in painting exhibitions, attend artist workshops, and learn new techniques in children’s picture books. Upon returning to Syria from the Community Solutions Program, Massa plans to continue to use art to increase awareness among children, youth and women of the importance of peace and accepting others, and to create opportunities for them to implement their skills for community development.
