Agnes Kwenda is the Founder and current Executive Director of Precious Life Foundation, working with vulnerable young women and teenage mothers helping them to be self-sufficient by providing vocational training, community integration and a halfway house. Kwenda looks for innovative ways in which teenage mothers and vulnerable women can be received, rehabilitated, and made self-reliant. As a fellow at St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children in Sacramento, California, Kwenda taught classes in employability, literacy and positive thinking to ensure that homeless families reintegrate into the community as productive and empowered contributors. Following the Community Solutions Program, she sought to help vulnerable women become self-reliant through a literacy and skills training program, after which they which they were recruited to work for Precious Life’s social enterprise making solar lanterns.
