Shelton Roulhac serves as IREX’s director of strategic communications, where he spearheads efforts to heighten the awareness of the organization and its impact in the world. Shelton leads a dynamic team tasked with developing and promoting campaigns to communicate the relevance of IREX’s mission and the solutions that IREX advances to address barriers to just, prosperous, and inclusive societies.

Prior to launching his career in communications and public policy, Shelton studied at the University of Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. During his time abroad, he observed the impact of global development firsthand and recognized the importance of providing individuals with the tools and resources to create change in their communities. Shelton carries the lessons he learned in South Africa into his role at IREX.

Before joining IREX, Shelton was vice president of communications at the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS), where he increased and enhanced the visibility of the state credit union system throughout the industry and regulatory community, while managing the organization’s communications program across various media, formats, and delivery channels. Under Shelton’s leadership, NASCUS launched a new website, underwent an extensive rebranding, and raised its standing in the financial services industry.

Shelton also previously served as senior director of advocacy at Credit Union National Association and as senior policy analyst at the Council on Foundations.

He holds a bachelor of science in economics from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and a juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
