Justin Arenstein, South Africa, is co‐founder, publisher and CEO of African Eye News Service, the subcontinent’s first rural‐based, independent investigative newswire agency and now southern Africa’s largest independent newswire. He is a media innovator and internationally recognized expert on new media technologies. As a Knight International Journalism Fellow, he is currently piloting four mobile news delivery systems at media organizations affiliated with the African Media Initiative in sub‐Saharan Africa. The pilots will serve as models for mobile news systems across Africa. He is also co‐founder of South Africa’s first city magazines through the HomeGrown Magazines brand and led the establishment of Mpumalanga’s first commercial radio station, MPowerFM. He serves on the boards of the Press Council of South Africa, the Open Democracy Advice Center, and other media industry bodies.
