Jocelyn Young is a Technical Specialist for the Information & Media and Communities & Governance Practices at IREX. She supports research and programs on information integrity, civic participation, and violence prevention.  

 

Prior to joining IREX, Jocelyn worked in strategic communications for several nonprofit organizations that focused on education, foreign affairs, and social cohesion. She received her bachelor's degree in communications from the University of California, Davis, where she also began her graduate studies in communication, conflict, and politics while teaching public speaking. She later transferred to graduate school in Washington, DC, where she gained a master's degree in statecraft and international affairs from the Institute of World Politics with a special focus on countering violent extremism. Her graduate research spanned from topics like digital political communication to the history of extremist movements around the globe. She has a special interest in countering polarization and democratic backsliding through media literacy and civic education.

 

Currently, Jocelyn also volunteers as a Webinar Series Manager with the Media Education Lab, organizing events such as the Lab’s AI in the Classroom series, and serves as a Mediation Ambassador for Community Mediation DC.
