We recognize immigration is complex, and timely support matters. Your safety and well‑being are central to the exchange experience. As your J‑1 visa sponsor, IREX provides ongoing support to help you navigate both routine requirements and unexpected situations during your time in the United States.

Below is important information about emergency support and health insurance responsibilities for J‑1 exchange visitors sponsored by IREX.

Ongoing and Responsive Staff Support

IREX's support does not end with issuance of a DS-2019. A dedicated team stands ready to advise participants or U.S. hosts on questions pertaining to the J visa that emerge throughout the program. Similarly, IREX will stay in touch with you to share information about any updates that impact your visa status.

Emergency Support

IREX provides 24/7 emergency support for participants in the United States to reach staff for urgent support outside of business hours. 

Insurance

Exchange visitors are required to maintain health insurance that meets applicable program standards for the duration of their exchange. Sponsors are responsible for ensuring exchange visitors have sufficient health insurance coverage. 

IREX provides guidance on compliance and acceptable coverage options; participants (or hosts/sending organizations, as applicable) select and pay for insurance separately. Insurance costs are not included in IREX’s sponsorship fee.
