Ukraine Media Emergency Fund (UMEF)

Overview

IREX’s Ukraine Media Emergency Fund provides rapid support to frontline journalists and media organizations operating in some of the most affected regions in Ukraine, where independent reporting is at a serious risk during the wartime.

Drawing on decades of experience supporting media professionals in crisis, IREX allocates funding based on the urgent needs of individuals and outlets working under wartime conditions. Support may include assistance with physical evacuation and relocation, journalist safety and wellbeing, staff salaries, and operational continuity.

With over 22 years of experience supporting more than 350 journalists and 73 media outlets in Ukraine, IREX is committed to continuing to strengthen Ukraine's media ecosystem. In addition to providing financial support to help outlets maintain operations, IREX equips Ukrainian media with vital tools, skills, and strategies they need to to stay resilient, adapt to wartime challenges, and continue serving their communities during this critical time for Ukraine.
