Design Hub: Information for Central Asia

Overview

The Design Hub provides audiences in Central Asia with high-quality information and media, including both news and entertainment programming.

IREX is creating a Central Asia design hub in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to serve as a center for training and production assistance for media organizations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. By training journalists and licensing American television content, IREX will engage audiences while promoting mutual understanding between the people of Central Asia and the United States.

Goals

  • Provide training and support to Central Asian media organizations for creating local content and regional content.
  • Create and produce a unique variety of digital, multimedia, and print products.
  • Collaborate with media organizations to make media content produced in the U.S. available to Central Asian audiences.

Project Activities

  • License American content in Central Asia: Together with local media partners, IREX is identifying priority themes for programs, securing licenses, and facilitating a selection of American-licensed television content. Content will be both produced by local media organizations and dubbed or subtitled into regional languages.
  • Produce professional news content: IREX will create a Central Asia design hub in Kyrgyzstan that will serve as a training and resource center for regional journalists. The Design Hub will provide space for training and production, host regional journalists to assist in media production, and coordinate regional trainings.
  • Produce local-language content: IREX is selecting local production vendors on a competitive basis to facilitate the production of media content that will be dubbed or subtitled for regional languages.
