Project Activities

  • Assess and map the Syrian media landscape: Up-to-date information on Syria’s rapidly changing media environment is crucial to understanding the needs, capabilities, difficulties, and opportunities of the Syrian media landscape as a whole and of selected partner media outlets. Continuously updated research will focus on information flows, capacities of selected partner outlets, audience research and preferences, and new opportunities.
  • Strengthen the capacity of selected media outlets: The project will strengthen selected media outlets’ capacity to generate reliable, accurate, and balanced reporting on local, national, and international issues, and to encourage inclusive and tolerant dialogue, promote coexistence, and provide alternatives to regime and violent extremist narratives. IREX will also focus on maintaining and building the audience share of the selected partners.
  • Develop a new independent satellite television channel: Satellite broadcasting offers unique and unparalleled opportunities to reach Syrian audiences across the country and region. IREX will develop and launch a new Syrian satellite television channel that will seek to inform, entertain, and resonate with moderate Syrian audiences.
