Harnessing Emerging Political Leaders for an Accountable Guatemala

Harnessing Emerging Political Leaders for an Accountable Guatemala

In partnership with USAID, IREX will support over 6,000 current and future civic and political leaders in Guatemala to engage productively in the civic and political space of their communities and nation. IREX and its partners will provide training, learning, and scholarship opportunities for marginalized, high-potential young leaders and will help youth movements, networks, and organizations that support underrepresented groups to encourage effective political participation.

Investing in young Guatemalan leaders will lead to more transparent governance, social engagement efforts and collaboration between marginalized and middle-class communities, and increased citizen engagement. This five-year project will support youth throughout Guatemala with a focus on women and marginalized communities.

IREX will position the next generation of Guatemalan leaders to address pressing challenges facing Guatemala by:

  • Increasing youth engagement in civic and political activities by building the skills of youth leaders at all levels and supporting youth movements and organizations
  • Strengthening opportunities for learning through scholarships, especially for youth from marginalized communities
  • Bridging geographic and cultural divides among youth leader networks and encouraging more inclusive partnerships¬†
