MEPI Leaders Grants for Community Projects and Professional Development Fund

During these uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic, community resilience is being challenged at every corner of the globe. With overwhelmed institutions, local activists are taking the stage to address the needs of their communities. MEPI Alumni are among these leaders across the Middle East and North Africa. Small grants for alumni will aid in their ability to take quick action on the ground or allow alumni to take advantage of professional development opportunities.  

Community Project Funds

These small grants will be offered to MEPI alumni to support them in taking quick action on the ground to help their communities through community projects These fixed amount awards of $1000 - 3000 will support alumni in short-term efforts of 1 - 2 months in length. Alumni will be required to provide short reports on their activity and its impact. 

Examples of community project funds include: 

  • Software to improve online learning developed by alumni. 

  • Materials to support underserved community members in a local project responding to the crisis.  

  • Resources to retrain-community members with skills learned through a MEPI Alumni Connection training such as L2D or Digital Storytelling; or 

  • Streamlined activities either meant to help their communities cope and recover in the post-COVID-19 crisis, for instance: Series of webinars on mental health, resilience during crisis, communication strategies, jobs creation, etc.

Professional Development Funds

Professional Development Funds will allow alumni to take advantage of professional development opportunities, such as enroll in a course or training to enhance their technical and professional development to promote MEPI alumni as thought leaders in their respective fields and elevate the prestige of the MEPI-funded program. These fixed amount awards –up to 3000 USD will support alumni in short-term  length opportunities. Alumni will be required to provide short reports on their activity and its impact.

Examples of professional development funds include:   

  • Online course or training related to your field of work 

  • In-person course or training related to your field of work 

  • Conference or event related to your field of work or studies 

  • Research for graduate program or community project 

  • Subscription for magazine in your field of work 

  • Equipment for entrepreneurial projects
