Susan Munini Mbatha
Susan Munini has worked as an engineer and project manager in the building construction and consultancy field for eight years. She holds a Master of Science in Urban Management and Development from Erasmus University, Rotterdam where she specialized in urban infrastructure design and development, green buildings, environmental, economic and social sustainability, projects financing, and governance. Susan is a co-founder and managing director of Sunspot Energy, a company specialized in providing solar power applications to rural communities, especially farmers without access to electricity, so that they may power their homes, and better undertake income-generating activities. Sunspot also does projects to provide solar power to homes, businesses, and institutions that seek to cut the cost of electricity. Currently, Susan is working with other professionals in the construction industry to promote the use of building integrated photovoltaic in place of traditional construction materials. Susan also volunteers as a mentor for high school girls, encouraging them to pursue careers in STEM. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Susan plans to continue promoting the use of solar power in the construction industry and providing innovative solar-based solutions that improve communities' livelihoods.
