Africa, Zimbabwe, Civic Engagement, 2019

Simbarashe Moyo is a social development specialist, a Mandela-Rhodes scholar, a global shaper at the World Economic Forum, and a former program intern at UN Women. Simbarashe champions grassroots-focused climate action in Zimbabwe through training high school students on the basics of climate change, tree planting, and waste management. His passion for climate action is inspired by the need to harness the skills, energy, and talent of young people in addressing climate change and its adverse impact on communities. As an active citizen, he has also been instrumental in advocating for responsive and responsible leadership in Zimbabwe's state institutions, as well as youth participation in policy processes by co-organizing the first ever Global Shapers Town Hall with the sitting president of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Upon completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Simbarashe hopes to further his endeavors in climate action and active citizenship.
