Itanisa Ismael Mbise
Itanisa Mbise has over three years' experience working in child protection and children's rights. Currently, Itanisa is the data and communications lead at C-Sema, an organization that provides platforms for children to speak out and be heard by parents, teachers, government leaders, and the community in general. Itanisa is the managing editor of the organization's children's magazine called Sema (Swahili for 'Speak') and works on communicating the organization's work using data to advocate for the improvement of parenting practices and children's services in her country. Itanisa is committed to making sure that her community is safe for children to grow and thrive in, and she believes that children's voices can help shape decisions of leaders, parents, and teachers. She has a keen interest in engaging the media and partners from civil society in evidence-based advocacy for children's rights & protection. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Itanisa plans to expand the reach of Sema Magazine and increase evidence-based advocacy work on issues affecting children in her community by increasing the space for children to speak out, and more importantly, be heard.
