Ari Katz is IREX’s regional director for Asia. He is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and he works on education and development programs in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Philippines.
Ari works with libraries, governments, and NGO partners on policy, strategy, training, and applying public access technology effectively to meet 21st century needs. Ari has been with IREX for 16 years. He has designed and led programs that support digital literacy, access to information, early grade reading, and social inclusion.
Ari currently manages the Navigator program. The program connects community information providers to help migrants in Myanmar and Nepal avoid the worst risks of human trafficking. The program also strengthens local justice systems to better address victims’ needs. Ari also works on the Onuprerona project in Bangladesh, which empowers communities to create locally relevant supplementary reading materials for children learning to read.
Since 2014, Ari has managed the Beyond Access program in Asia. The program supports public library modernization efforts in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. Ari has also managed education technology programs in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Ari is a graduate of Boston University, and he received his master’s at the Institute of Development Studies, UK.
