Abbie Wade is a communications associate in the Strategic Communications Unit and for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
In her role, she manages IREX’s social media accounts, developing high-quality, strategically aligned content to engage and inspire audiences in Washington, DC, and around the world. She assists with IREX-wide communications activities by developing press releases, web stories, and other editorial content.
Abbie also provides communications support for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders and is committed to showcasing the Fellowship’s impact across the United States and Africa. She contributes to the Fellowship’s social media presence, tracks press mentions, and develops editorial content.
Prior to joining IREX, Abbie supported media outreach efforts and social media engagement for nonprofits, governmental organizations, and corporations at GMMB, a strategic communications firm and advertising agency. Previously, she assisted with marketing and communications at GuideStar, including maintaining the organization’s social media presence and regularly contributing content to the GuideStar blog. Abbie also interned for WCVB News in Boston and Allied Integrated Marketing.
Abbie graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communication and political science. Her academic coursework focused on digital media communication tools, media and peacebuilding, and international organizations.
While an undergraduate, Abbie worked for GW Sports Marketing and was a member of the GW First Ladies Dance Team. During this time, she contributed to social media campaigns to promote GW Athletics and university and community events.
