Survey Results: How do public libraries influence Romanian Lives?

Results from a national survey demonstrate how public libraries are influencing citizens in Romania:

• $25.9 million in agricultural subsidies accessed by communities across Romania using computers in public libraries in 2011.

• 7.8 million Romanian citizens would like to have free Internet access at the public library.

• 250,000 Romanians used the internet for the first time through their local public library

• 4,442 computers donated to public libraries

• Over $8.5 million invested in IT, software equipment, and librarians’ training

• 917 libraries equipped with computers, software, and printers were fully functional by December 1, 2011

• Another 565 libraries will be equipped and fully functional by April 2012

• Public authorities contributed $4 million for library renovations and internet subscriptions

• 1,779 librarians trained to use computers
