The Role of Local NGOs in Promoting Democracy and Development in Armenia (Research Brief)
September 30, 2003
Author:
Armine Ishkanian My research with local NGOs in Armenia, Western and diaspora donors, government officials who work with NGOs, and “oligarchs” (i.e., wealthy businessmen) was aimed at trying to better understand the multiple perspectives, discourses, and strategies of the various actors, the processes of foreign aid and NGO development, and the nature of NGO-donor relationships. My research builds on and adds to the literature on the role of NGOs and development as well as to the growing body of knowledge on post-socialist transitions.
