Jude Noah Rost In addition to providing an institutional history of the Old Village Museum and an analysis of the debates surrounding its original construction and transformation, the dissertation explores how contemporary visitors are able to negotiate the tangled narratives of the Yugoslav and Croatian pasts that the folk museum provides, paying particular attention to the ways in which contemporary conceptions of Croatian national identity are constructed and contested at the site.
