Localizing Global Subjects: A Study of Educational Actors in the Process of Albanian Democratization (Research Brief)
This project investigates the role of educational actors in Albanian education reform and democratization.
Using semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and policy analysis, I examine two democracy-oriented educational projects in urban center and periphery Albanian schools. I investigate how key actors make sense of their roles in relation to democratic citizenship education, how they engage different forms of knowledge as they interpret and adapt new policies and programs, and how they translate their knowledge into practice. By examining how different values, forms of knowledge, and expectations of one’s role in the system get negotiated, I aim to generate a more thorough understanding of educational localization and its significance in the context of democratization
