L. N. Tolstoy’s Correspondence with Americans, Vol. 1: Text Preparation and Verification (Research Brief)
This project, now over twenty years in operation, has several aims: (1) to identify all the extant letters written by Americans to L. N. Tolstoy (some 1700 from the mid-1880s until his death in 1910); (2) to publish in one volume the 595 letters exchanged between Tolstoy and 63 Americans with whom he corresponded; (3) to publish in a second volume several hundred letters from various Americans that were not answered, to provide a full list of all the letters of Americans to Tolstoy, and to provide a bibliography of everything published by and about Tolstoy in America through 1910 (about 1350 items).
