Some of the general questions explored during the grant include: • To what degree do Serbian refugees and displaced persons exhibit strong nationalistic and /or chauvinistic tendencies? • What are refugees attitudes regarding possible return to their former homes? • Which political elements do refugees support in Serbia? • What are refugee attitudes regarding American and Western foreign policy vis-àvis the Balkans and former Yugoslavia? • How do refugees perceive the concepts of “democracy” and “free markets”? • How similar are the attitudes of refugees to those of the Serbian public in general? • How do refugees view other ethnic groups in former Yugoslavia and their host population in Serbia proper?
