UASP Fellows Fall 2012

In Fall 2012, the University Administration Support Program brought nine leading higher education administrators from Armenia, Belarus, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Ukraine to conduct research on a range of university management topics at host universities across the United States.

 

Jerry AnyanJerry Anyan

University of Education, Winneba

Winneba, Ghana

Coordinator, Monitoring and Evaluation

U.S. Host: Kent State University

Management Topic: Fundraising / Development

 

Jerry Anyan holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Ghana-Legon. He is currently the Administrator for Monitoring and Evaluation for Externally Funded Projects at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana. In addition to supervising monitoring activities of current projects and designing evaluation action plans for program proposals, Jerry also serves as the Coordinator for the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa Educational Technology Programme. Before his current role, he held the position of Assistant Registrar. While in the United States, Jerry plans to gain experience in fundraising practices that will help him build the capacity of faculty and administrators to enhance donor relations management.

 

Augustus BrewAugustus Brew

Senior Assistant Registrar

U.S. Host: Montclair State University

Management Topic: Admissions Management

 

Augustus Brew holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education from the University of Ghana-Legon. He is currently the Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana. In addition to managing the admission policies and practices for the university, Augustus is also responsible for directing university outreach activities for prospective students. Prior to his position as Registrar in the Admissions Office, Augustus worked as a History and English Language teacher. While in the United States, Augustus plans to gain experience with online application systems for university admissions and to broaden outreach campaigns. 

 

Noela JonathanNoela Jonathan

Senior Administrative Officer

U.S. Host: University of Missouri-Columbia

Management Topic: Corporate Relations

 

Noela Jonathan holds a Master of Business degree in Marketing from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where she is currently a Senior Administrative Officer in the Directorate of Public Service. In addition to coordinating all matters of corporate relations, she also assists with developing, marketing, and implementing continuing education services at the university. Prior to her current role, Noela worked as a Marketing Officer at the Center for Continuing Education, Dar es Salaam. While in the United States, Noela plans to gain experience in the field of corporate relations at U.S. universities in order to create guidelines for the coordination and facilitation of corporate relations at the University of Dar es Salaam.

 

Aliaksandr Kalbaska

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs

U.S. Host: College of William & Mary

Management Topic: International Relations

 

Aliaksandr Kalbaska holds a doctorate in History from the Belarusian National Academy of Science. He is currently the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the European Humanities University in Lithuania. In addition to coordinating the university’s strategic academic planning and curriculum development, Aliaksandr also leads the implementation of distance education programs through instructional technology. Prior to his current role, Aliaksandr served as the Dean for the Arts and Culture Heritage Faculty. Aliaksandr plans to build upon his experience in the United States to expand the International Relations office and international programs at his university.

 

Liliya Morska

Ternopil National Pedagogical University

Head, Department of English Philology

U.S. Host: Michigan State University

Management Topic: Academic Department Management

 

Liliya Morksa holds a doctorate in Pedogagy from Ternopil National Pedagogical University, where she is currently the Chair of the Department of English Philology. In addition to coordinating the development of the curriculum for the department, Liliya also teaches at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and serves as an adviser for doctoral students. Prior to her current position, Liliya was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages. While in the Unites States, Liliya plans to research best practices and innovations in department management at U.S. universities.

 

Patrick Mutimba

Makerere University

Director, Office of Investments

U.S. Host: Rutgers University

Management Topic: Fundraising / Development

 

Patrick Mutimba holds a Master of Business Administration from the Irish University School of Business. He is currently the Director of Office Investments at Makerere University, where he is responsible for developing the university’s endowment and implementing investment policy. Prior to his current position, Patrick served as the Portfolio Manager at the investment management firm, Stanbic Investments (East Africa). While in the United States, Patrick plans to identify key ways of attracting university investments and endowments.

 

Oleksandr SpivakovskiyOleksandr Spivakovskiy

Kherson State University

Kherson, Ukraine

U.S. Host: Eastern Washington University

Management Topic: University Governance / Trustees

 

Oleksandr Spivakovskiy holds a doctorate in pedagogical sciences from the National Pedagogic University in Kiev, Ukraine, and a doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences from the Research Institute of Mathematics, Ukraine Academy of Sciences. He is currently the first Vice-Rector at Kherson State University in Ukraine where he is directly responsible for the university’s international connections, information technologies, and the creation, development and maintenance of the informational communicational infrastructure. In addition to his role as Vice-Rector, Oleksandr is also a Professor of Applied Mathematics and Informational Technologies. While in the United States, Oleksandr plans to gain new knowledge and best practices regarding university management and collaboration between faculties.

 

Daniel Stephen

University of Dar es Salaam

Head, Office of Convocation and Alumni Relations

U.S. Host: University of Nebraksa-Omaha

Management Topic: Alumni Relations

 

Daniel Stephen holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a post-graduate diploma in Law from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently the Head of the Office of Convocation and Alumni Relations and is responsible for the development and management of the university’s alumni network. Prior to his current role, Daniel worked as an Administrative Officer, recruiting academic staff members and overseeing employee benefits. While in the United States, Daniel will conduct research to develop a strategic plan to increase and strengthen alumni outreach at the University of Dar es Salaam.

 

Robert SukiasyanRobert Sukiasyan

Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia

Yerevan, Armenia

Head, Division on Higher and Postgraduate Education

U.S. Host: George Mason University

Management Topic: Government Relations

 

Robert Sukiasyan holds a doctorate in Medical Science from the National Institute of Health of the Republic of Armenia. He is currently the Head of the Division on Higher and Postgraduate Education at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. In his current role, Robert is responsible for the development of national policy for higher and postgraduate education, and he also coordinates cooperation between the government and universities in the implementation of government policies. In addition, Robert manages government relations with educational institutes to ensure adherence to the national education framework. While in the United States, Robert will be conducting research on the effective cooperation between higher education institutions and government offices.
