Spring 2011 University Administration Support Program Fellows



The Fall 2011 cohort of University Administration Support Program fellows brought together five leading university administrators - 1 from Armenia, 3 from Russia and 1 from Ukraine. They conducted research on a range of university management topics at host universities across the country. 

Fatima Abaeva
North Ossetian State University
Head, Foreign Languages for Sciences

Fundraising/Development

Fatima Abaeva holds a doctorate of Science from North Ossetian State University. She is currently the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages in North Ossetian State University. In addition to managing department staff, she also supervises and coordinates the development of curricular planning for ten faculties. She has previously worked as a Senior Teacher at North Ossetian State and also as the Headmaster of the Saint George International School of English. While in the United States, Dr. Abaeva plans to research the American model of university fundraising and financial development.

 

Oxana Blazhilina

Oxana Blazhilina received her degree as a Philologist from the Far Eastern National University. She is currently the Head of International Admissions and Educational Marketing for the Office of International Education Support at Far Eastern Federal University. She has previously served as the Deputy Director of the Center of Foreign Credential Evaluation, and also as the Senior Manager of the Division of Academic Mobility for the university. Ms. Blazhilina plans to conduct research on Admissions Management with the goal of developing and strengthening the recruitment strategy at her home institution.

 

Gagik Demirjian
Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute

Research Development

Gagik Demirjian holds a doctorate in Physics from Yerevan State University. He currently serves as the Head of the Doctoral Department at the Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute where he coordinates research activities for doctoral students and monitors research quality assurance. Previously, Dr. Demirjian has served as a professor of Physics and has conducted extensive research on education administration. Following the fellowship, he hopes to assist with the university’s restructuring of the research office and to contribute to developing a management infrastructure for research activities.

 

Aleksey Sukhochev
Voronezh State University

Tech Transfer

Aleksey Sukhochev holds a doctorate in Chemistry from the Voronezh State University as well as training certificates for managing small and medium businesses. He currently serves as the Director of the Technology Commercialization Center where he develops and monitors the university’s plans regarding technological innovation and protection of intellectual property. Previously, Dr. Sukhochev served as Senior Researcher for the university in the area of Nanotechnologies. Following the fellowship, he hopes to create a university integrated system for technological innovation management.

 

Oleh Volchanskyy
Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University

University of North Texas
Corporate Relations

Oleh Volchanskyy received his doctorate in General Physics from Kyiv Shevchenko State University, and is the author of over 75 publications in physics, educational technology, higher education, and corporate-university relations. As the Head of the Research Department, he manages the university’s research project portfolio and well as projects funded through private organizations and the Ministry of Science and Education. He also serves as a Member of the Civil Council on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Kirovohrad Regional Administration. While in the United States, Dr. Volchanskyy will research methods to involve the corporate sector in support and funding for higher education.
