Attributes of Successful Private Universities in Transition Countries (Research Brief)
This study is not intended to be a representative survey of all successful private institutions in transition countries, or even the most successful institutions, but rather it is intended to be a purposive sample of eight case studies drawn from three transition countries that have experienced major diminishment of private institutions—i.e., Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine. The countries were selected because they: a) are indeed in transition and within the researcher’s past experiences, b) previously experienced strong expansion in their private sectors, c) have recently experienced strong ministerial intervention in the accreditation and licensure process of private institutions, and d) have knowledgeable English and native speaking correspondents in each setting who are willing to work with me during my institutional visits and interviews.
