Most institutions in Africa underestimate the importance of their alumni and are more likely to underutilize them in pursuit of their strategic goals. The purpose of this study is to establish and analyze the factors behind the success of alumni relations and the culture of giving back at the University of Nebraska at Omaha-Alumni Association and to recommend the same practices to the University of Dar-es-Salaam-Alumni Association. The specific goals of the study are: to study how UNO works with current students so as to identify themselves as alumni prior to their graduation; to learn how various online social networks can be used to strengthen relationship with alumni, to gain experience in organizing and working with alumni chapters and other off-campus programs; to analyze the most effective and efficient ways to solicit alumni donations.
