“No War between Nations, No Peace between Classes:” Radical Activism in the Wake of Yugoslavia (Research Brief)

My dissertation, based on more than fifteen months of fieldwork in the former Yugoslavia, focuses on grassroots social justice, environmental and migration rights activists, most of whom see themselves as part of the social movements that organized recent protests in Seattle, Prague, Quebec and Genoa. While based primarily in Zagreb, Croatia, my research traces a broader, transnational community created among activists in Trieste, Italy; Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Belgrade, Yugoslavia, among other cities.
