Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) in Egypt

Program Overview

The Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) in Egypt builds the professional and leadership skills of young women, age 18-25, empowering them to play active roles in the private, public and civil society sectors. This three-year USAID program is executed in partnership with the Center for Development Services (CSD) in Egypt.

Program Objectives

  • Equip young women with skills, confidence, and experience to become future leaders in the public arena
  • Improve democratic governance in Egypt by increasing public participation, particularly that of young women
  • Increase the promotion and acceptance of women’s equality in Egypt

Program Activities

The program provides women with technical and skills training, mentoring, and opportunities to design and manage small-grant projects. Program activities include:

  • Comprehensive coursework and practical experience in leadership and advocacy
  • Seminars and online consultation with female Egyptian role models
  • The opportunity to manage and conduct community projects with IREX small grants
  • Establishment of Community Resource Centers with IT training for young women and their communities
  • Capacity building for local NGOs to continue support for future young women leaders
