Youth Development Competencies Program (YDCP)

Program Overview

youth

The Youth Development Competencies Program (YDCP), funded by USAID and developed by IREX, replicates effective youth programming in 10 regions of the Russian Federation.

IREX has designed YDCP in line with best practices in positive youth development. This includes: approaching youth as a resource to be developed, rather than a problem to be solved; focusing on holistically nurturing skills and competencies, not solely preventing specific problems; and engaging the whole community.

KEY OBJECTIVES

Objective 1: Youth develop competencies to become active, engaged, successful adults through replicating, tailoring, implementing, and participating in (a) a network of youth-driven programs that are responsive to the needs of a wide spectrum of youth audiences (from marginalized to active youth) and participating in (b) community-wide programs implemented by adults for a youth audience.

Objective 2: Youth-driven programs are institutionalized with community support from government, business, media, and educators.

Project Activities

  • Recruit and select innovative youth programs from across the Russian Federation. IREX selects from among the most successful and effective Russian youth programs, making these models available for replication in new regions of the country.
  • Support and train participants. IREX provides funding, training, and mentoring for local youth to adapt successful programs to their regions or for youth NGOs to expand their proven programs to new locations.
  • Online clearinghouse: The clearinghouse is an information- and knowledge-sharing tool, which allows for communicating successes and challenges among participants and to the public at large.
  • Promote ongoing adult stakeholder participation in YDCP. IREX is committed to helping youth and adults work together for the betterment of youth and local communities as a whole.
