EPS Scholar Provides Her Expertise to the US Consulate in Vladivostok
Under the auspices of the US Embassy Policy Specialist Program Dr. Natalia Smirnova, Assistant Professor of Business and Economics at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, conducted research on the current and future state of economic development in the Russian Far East and ways to attract US business and investors to the region.
For over 40 years, IREX has been administering research and exchange opportunities in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.* In that time, over 6,000 American scholars have participated in IREX programs. For over 20 years, IREX has been the recipient of Title VIII funding from the US Department of State. The IREX program portfolio currently includes six opportunities for scholars and professionals to engage in the region.
IARO - The Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program provides graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and professionals with funding to conduct field research in up to three of the Title VIII sponsored countries for up to nine months. Deadline for the 2011-2012 IARO competition is November 17, 2010, and the application will be available on our website approximately two months in advance.
STG - The Short-Term Travel Grant Program is a program designed for scholars who currently possess an applicable graduate degree. STG grants provide funding for up to two months of research in up to two countries in the region. Applications for 2010-2011 STG will be due February 2, 2010.
EPS - The US Embassy Policy Specialist Program - Created in 2004, the US Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS) Program at IREX has grown into a major fellowship under the US Department of State’s Title VIII program.
Regional Policy Symposium - The Regional Policy Symposium Program provides scholars and policy-makers with a forum to examine and discuss current policy research on the countries of Eurasia and Central and East Europe from multi-disciplinary and multi-regional approaches. Applications for 2010 Symposium will be due December 11, 2009.
Teaching Fellowship Program for Eurasian and Eastern European Studies - The Teaching Fellowship Program is designed to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions develop a Eurasian and Eastern European Studies program on their campuses.
*Eligible Countries of Research: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan
