Topic: Integration of Teaching and Research

Victor Demine’s project is to create a Student Research and Development Incubator as part of the Radiophysics Department of Tomsk State University. This incubator will give graduate students research experience as well as theoretical knowledge in their fields of study, combining research and academic work within their education. The incubator will allow the university to teach its graduate students how to plan and provide a research and development (R&D) project, improve the students’ knowledge about intellectual property and management of R&D projects, give students skills in R&D team work, and introduce the students to relevant industries and companies.

Topic: Integration of Teaching and Research

The basic administrative, educational, and research unit of Rostov State University, called a Chair, is outdated. A Chair usually consists of 10-30 employees whose main functions are designing and implementing educational programs and courses, giving support to undergraduate students, and conducting scientific research. This project will serve as a model to reform the Chair system throughout the university by creating a Biomech group in addition to the existing Chair structure. As Biomechanics is a new and rapidly developing branch of science at Rostov State University, this Biomech group will explore new administrative ideas such as liaising surrounding businesses with the university and boosting the university’s advertising.

Topic: Information Systems and Quality Assurance

The goal of this project is to track, evaluate, and increase the quality of recruited freshmen at the university. The project will create and implement a corporate information system to rate and monitor graduating high-school seniors. This project aims to increase the informational quality and self-descriptiveness of the recruitment process, to maintain interaction with potential students prior to their admission and enrollment to the university, and to ensure an influx of highly ranked and rated students.

Topic: Alumni and Community Relations

This pilot project will establish the Samara State University Friends Association. The association will join together university alumni and friends and will be the basis for university community relations. Establishing the University Friends Association will encourage civic participation and the development of civil society in education. It will introduce the idea of citizenship into higher education. The primary goals of this reform are to encourage Samara State University’s development in collaboration with community feedback, to bring additional human resources and ideas to the university, to make Samara State University the center of social life and culture in the city, and to establish a fundraising system for the university.

Topic: Faculty Development and Quality Assurance

This pilot project targets the elaboration of a university-wide review model. The project’s vision focuses on the idea that a comprehensive faculty review can help to motivate and develop faculty, bringing faculty and institutional goals closer together and thus providing greater accountability. It will also create a foundation for assessing the university’s performance and will bring tie the assessment with planning, thus providing a basis for integrated strategic planning.

Topic: Human Resource Management and Information Systems

This project will create the Center of Information Technology and Professional Development for the Psychological and Pedagogical Department. The project will unite the department’s Academic Resources Center for Students and Staff, Information Technology Laboratory, and the Computer Laboratory. The new united center will be a technology resource for the university’s faculty, and will also be active in reforming the larger academic process.

Topic: Quality Assurance

This project will initiate reform to Voronezh State University’s quality assurance system. The creation of a modern quality assurance system will raise the quality of education at the university, create a system of continuous monitoring of the learning process, acquaint the employees and students of the University with international criterions of quality assurance and with procedures of international accreditation, and will ultimately create the necessary conditions for raising the standards of administrative work at the University.
