Rumena Afroza, English Teacher

U.S. Host University: University of Alabama-Huntsville
Ms. Afroza graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science in 1996 and a bachelor’s degree in education in 2003 from National University Gazipur. She has been a teacher at Kumuria Narail High School since 2004. Ms. Afroza has also participated in several training modules. Based on her experience in American schools, she would like to experiment with new teaching methods in her lessons.

Ms. Akter received with a bachelor of arts in 1995 from National Univeristy-Gazipur and a bachelor of education in 1999 from Bangladesh Open University-Gazipur. She continued her education at National University-Gazipur, earning a master’s degree in Islamic history and culture in 2005.  Ms. Akter is expecting a master of education in 2007 from Bangladesh Open University. She has been a teacher at Mobiz Uddin Khan High School since 2002. Ms. Akter is very interested in learning about American teaching methodologies.

Mr. Miah received his bachelor’s degree in 1988 from Dhaka University and has recently been studying for his bachelor of education at Shanta Mariam University in Dhaka. He has taught English for eleven years at Janata High School in Tangail and has trained English teachers at the secondary level under the PACE program at BRAC in Bangladesh. Mr. Miah looks forward to improving his English and sharing his knowledge by developing an English club with fellow English teachers in his home country.

Ms. Nesha graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences in 1997 from Srimangal Government College. She continued her education at the Khan Bahadur Ahasan Ullah Teachers Training College, where she received a master’s degree in education in 2006. She has been a teacher at Tetai Gaon Rashid Uddin High School for seven years and has also worked as a teacher trainer. Ms. Nesha would like to learn about how American schools use computers and technology as teaching aids.

Ms. Rumi obtained her bachelor of arts from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh in 1987, a master of arts from the same university in 1991, and another bachelor’s degree in education at National University-Bangladesh in 1999. She is the head teacher at Saturia Pilot Girl’s High School in Manikganj and is the coordinator of the Communicative English Training Program there. She will share the knowledge and experience she gains under the TEA program with other teachers in an effort to improve the standard of education in rural schools in Bangladesh.

Mr. Sarkar received a bachelor’s degree in humanities in 1980 from N.S. College in Natore, Bangladesh, a bachelor of education from T.T. College, also in Natore, in 1983. He then obtained a master’s degree in political science from Rajshahi University in 1987, followed by a master of English from Dhaka University in 1995. He is currently headmaster at the Madhnagar S.I. High School in Natore, and has been teaching English for 26 years. He believes that the TEA program will help him to improve English education in Bangladesh to give students better preparation for conducting research and utilizing communications technology in the future.

Mukti Mahamud Uddin, English Teacher

Mr. Uddin obtained his bachelor of arts in 2000 from Tajgoan College in Dhaka. He is an assistant teacher of English at Digharagati R.S.B. High School in Gopalgonj, and he has participated in teacher training for English and high school teachers from PACE at BRAC. Upon his completion of the TEA program, Mr. Uddin plans to establish an English club and share the benefits of his teacher training with other teachers in order to create curricula that is more geared toward the needs of students.

Ms. Bashlykova received a bachelor’s degree from the Kurgan State Pedagogical Institute in Russia in 1993.  She has been a teacher at Gymnasium #6 since 1995.  She also works as a teacher trainer at the Center for Teacher Training in Kokchetav and at the Department of Social Help. She would like to develop a film about her experience in the U.S. to use as a teaching tool and to encourage communication between her students and American students.

Ms. Kostina received a bachelor’s degree from the Almaty Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages in 1979.  She has been a teacher at the State Girls Gymnasium since 1999.  She also teaches at the Economical Lyceum and has participated in several professional development activities. She would like to learn about more methods to improve the confidence of her students for gain more knowledge for her specific courses on the U.S.

Ms. Labukova received a bachelor’s degree from East Kazakhstan State University in 1993 from the Foreign Language Faculty. She has been a teacher at Gymnasium #38 for many years, and also serves as a member of the National and City Teacher’s Association. She would like to gain more experience with methodology on grammar lessons.

Ms. Amonova graduated with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in history and literary criticism from Bukhara State University.  She has been a teacher at school #41 since 2000 and a teacher trainer since 2000. She hopes to share her experience in American schools with her students and colleagues during teacher training sessions.

Ms. Ergasheva graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Korean Philology in 1998 from Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies.  She has been a teacher at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Lyceum since 2001.  She has also participated in online training courses and served as a teacher trainer. Ms. Ergasheva would like to gain more experience with cross-cultural communication and teaching in a diverse classroom.

Ms. Erkaboyeva graduated with a certificate from Ankara University in 1993 and a bachelor’s degree from the Andijan State Pedagogical Institute of Languages in 1996.  She has been a teacher at School #42 since 2006. Ms. Erkaboyeva has also translated manuals. She would like to gain more experience with American teaching methodologies.

Mr. Jabborov graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages in 2002. Mr. Jabborov has been a teacher at the Academic Lyceum under Samarkand Institute of Foreign Languages since 2002. He has also published several articles on teaching methods. Mr. Jabborov would like to share his experience in the United States with his students and colleagues during teacher training sessions.

Ms. Makhatova graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Uzbek State World Languages University in 2000.  She then went on to earn two certificates in foreign languages from the Navoi Teacher Training Institute in 2002 and 2003.  She has been a teacher at Secondary School #7 since 2006. Ms. Makhatova would like to share her experience in the U.S. with her students by creating an English language club and with colleagues during teacher training sessions.

Ms. Matyakubova graduated from Urgench State University’s Department of World Languages in 1997. Ms. Matyakubova has also done graduate work at the Uzbek State University of World Languages, where she now teaches English and organizes courses for gifted students who are interested in studying the history, customs, and traditions of English-speaking countries. Ms. Matyakubova is looking forward to learning more about modern American English phrases and American modern life in order to better organize her culture classes at home.

Ms. Mukhitdinova graduated with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages from Bukhara Pedagogical Institute in 1981. She continued her studies at this institute, earning another bachelor’s degree in 1986 in Russian language and literature. Ms. Mukhitdinova has been a teacher at the F. Khodjaev Academic Lyceum since 2000. She has also participated in many teacher training conferences and competitions.  Ms. Mukhitdinova would like to gain more experience with nontraditional methods of teaching English.

Ms. Nazarova graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Tashkent State University in 1998. She has been a teacher in Shakhrisabz since 1998. Ms. Nazarova has also participated in a teacher training sessions conducted by Japanese teachers. She is very interested in using her experience in American schools to organize teacher training sessions in her community.

Mr. Rahmatullaev graduated with a bachelor’s in Roman-German Philology in 2000 from Bukhara State University. He continued his studies at the Uzbek State World Languages University, where he earned a master’s in English language and literature in 2002. Mr. Rahmatullaev has been a teacher at School #16 for five years.  He has also participated in several online teacher training courses. Mr. Rahmatullaev would like to share his experience in American schools with his colleagues through seminars and internet forums.

Mr. Rakhmanov graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Termez State University in 2002.  He has recently become an English teacher at the Academic Lyceum in Termez.  He has also participated in several online teacher training courses. Mr. Rakhmanov is very interested in using his experience in American schools to create informational materials and a website that will serve as a link between Uzbek and American teachers.

Svetlana Repetiy, English Teacher

Ms. Repetiy’s education consists of a master’s degree in piano from Tashkent State Conservatory, a certificate from Tashkent State Pedagogic University in ethics, and an English teaching certificate from the Teacher In-Service Institute in 2003.  She continues her studies at the Uzbek World Languages University. Ms. Repetiy has been a teacher at the Republican Music College since 2003.  She has also served as a member of UzTEA. Ms. Repetiy is particularly interested in using her experience in American schools to improve and update textbooks for the college level of learning English in Uzbekistan.

Nodira Sobirova, English Teacher

Ms. Sobirova graduated with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages in 1997 from Urgench State University.  She continued her education at the Institute of Language and Literature Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, where she earned a PhD in folklore.  Ms. Sobirova has also earned certificates from Shanghai University and Tata Consultancy Services. She has been a teacher at School #27 for two years. Ms. Sobirova has also been a member of UzTEA and has participated in all the conferences and trainings. She would like to write articles for local newspapers on the U.S. educational system when she returns.
