Launched in September 2004, RLIC provides in-house services at 9 Azerbaijani libraries with plans to expand to more.

KEY ISSUES AND OBJECTIVES

  • Support the revitalization of regional libraries with the use of information technology.
  • Improve the capacity of regional libraries to serve their communities as valuable information access points.

PROGRAM RESULTS

  • Launched in September 2004, RLIC provides in-house services at 9 Azerbaijani libraries with plans to expand to as many as 6 more.

PROGRAM ACTIVTIES

For RLIC, IREX provides:

  • Computer Center Installation: At each library participating in the program, IREX installs computer centers for use by the general public and library staff.

  • Basic Computer Training: At the computer centers, IREX offers basic training courses to library staff and members of the public. Training courses cover subjects such as computer literacy, Internet usage, and website design.

  • Specialized Training Sessions: IREX offers a number of specialized trainings for librarians and members of the public that combine computer usage with a specific theme. For example, during the 2005 elections in Azerbaijan, IREX organized a number of online events designed to disseminate election-related information to the communities being served by the program.
