Maternal and Child Health Education and Exchange Program (MCHEEP)

Program Overview

Initiated in 2007, the Maternal and Child Health Education and Exchange Program (MCHEEP) is a people-to-people program providing opportunities for Iranian and American public health professionals to meet and observe each others’ maternal and child health care systems and initiatives. MCHEEP is supported by grants from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and the Starr Foundation.

KEY ISSUES AND OBJECTIVES

  • Contribute to improving maternal and child health programs
  • Develop professional and personal relationships between American and Iranian health professionals and institutions

PROJECT PLAN

  • Professional exchange and education program for 21 Iranian and American health professionals

Project Activities

  • Exchange of Best Practices: Through meetings with counterparts and public health organizations as well as site visits to medical schools, clinics, hospitals and other facilities, MCHEEP will initiate a dialogue between maternal and child health professionals from Iran and the U.S. on models for effective maternal and child health practices.

  • Public Health Education and Research: Program participants will also have an opportunity to share and discuss research on current maternal and child health issues and practices.

Project History

IREX has supported international public health programming since 1994. IREX programs have developed partnerships among international medical schools, sponsored graduate study in public health, and promoted healthy lifestyles and prevention of infectious diseases. IREX has also worked with children with disabilities and special needs.
