Promoting Tolerance and Dialogue through Interactive Theater in Eastern Indonesia

 

Program Overview

 

The Promoting Tolerance and Dialogue through Interactive Theater in Eastern Indonesia is a one-year program funded by Great Britain’s Strategic Program Fund and implemented by IREX Europe, IREX and the Center for Civic Education Indonesia (CCEI).  The project aims to bring youth from conflict and post conflict areas in Eastern Indonesia into productive dialogue for conflict prevention through the use of interactive theater and to build local capacity for ongoing conflict prevention and mitigation. 


Key Objectives

  • Training teachers and theater specialists to use interactive theater techniques to work with youth to prevent and mitigate conflict to address extremism and ethnic and religious intolerance.
  • Engaging youth in dialogue about conflict, extremism and intolerance using interactive theater techniques to reduce the influence of extremist groups.

 

Project Activities

  • Train teachers and theater professionals to use interactive theater techniques as a tool to address conflict drivers with youth to combat the voices of extremism and intolerance.
  • Conduct youth theater camps to engage youth in dialogue about conflict, extremism, and intolerance in their lives through interactive theater techniques to prevent and mitigate conflict.
  • Award micro-grants to teachers, theater specialists and youth to implement interactive theater projects that raise awareness about tolerance and conflict prevention in their communities.
