Assistant Public Relations Officer Introduces Residents of Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan to PAS Work and Shares Information on Human Trafficking

Public Relations Officer to PAS
Assistant of Public Relations Officer Ainur Sydykova
shares information about US Embassy's
Public Affairs Section’s work with students of Korkyt
Ata University (KAU) and representatives of local
nonprofit organizations in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan.

Assistant of Public Relations Officer Ainur Sydykova introduced over 30 residents of Kyzylorda, to the US Embassy Public Affairs Section’s (PAS) work on human trafficking issues in Kazakhstan during a February 16 seminar. Sydykova shared information PAS grants programs, educational resources, advancement programs for journalists, and collaboration projects with local media. Sydykova also summarized US State Department’s Trafficking in Person’s Report issued in June 2006, which mentioned improvements of Kazakh Government’s activities in complying with standards for the elimination of trafficking, including a set of legislative amendments in March 2006 strengthening the government’s ability to investigate, prosecute and convict traffickers. The seminar was possible thanks to Dmitriy Lemayev (FLEX 03), the trainer of the Independent Internet Center (IIC), and Peace Corps Volunteer Jared Novoseller, who organized the workshop at KAU within the frameworks of their English Club activities for residents of Kyzylorda. Later, seven KAU students attended Internet basics course from February 19 to 23 at the IIC, in the course of which the participants browsed US Embassy’s website for grant and scholarship opportunities and links to educational resources. Lemayev commented, “I think this opportunity to invite Ainur Sydykova to share PAS’ work along with human trafficking with students and NGO leaders was a big success. I believe the participants learned many facts about PAS and its programs. We hope to host other events with US Embassy officials and grant local people an opportunity to ask questions and acquire answers directly from the Embassy staff.” IATP its sustainable IIC partners have been providing a link for information and mutual understanding between the US Embassy and the people of Kazakhstan for nearly a decade.
