Developing effectibe proposal writing skills in
Kapan, Armenia

Since its inception, IATP centers in Armenia have been using their technological and human resources to improve the lives over 66 people with disabilities. One group of young activists distributed posters advocating improved accessibility at their university, another group exchanged ideas on how to improve accessibility with a Red Cross official online, while a group of disabled citizens obtained skills in successful proposal writing from a Peace Corps volunteer at IATP centers across the country.

  • Concerned citizens of Yeghegnadzor, Armenia advocated for improved accessibility of the environment for their physically challenged peers. Officials from Social Psychological Center, Red Cross together with Mehranush Sahakyan, IATP trainer organized a two day seminar on February 20 and 21 at Yeghegnadzor State University, where they presented the “I’m not alone” project, designed to protect the right to an accessible environment for physically challenged citizens. Twenty participants discussed strategies for creating equal opportunities for the involvement of the physically challenged the country’s development.
  • An online discussion on Armenia’s environment wheelchair inaccessibility raised the participants’ awareness of the fact that each person has a contribution to make in the country, and that equal opportunities will ensure the fullest development of Armenian society. Over 15 residents from four IATP centers across the country came together on February 12 to exchange ideas and concrete steps they could take in collaboration to reach this common goal.
  • Volunteers of the disabled children’s center in Kapan, Armenia finalized a project proposal aimed at empowering children with disabilities through physical training. The proposal is ready for introduction to donor organizations thanks to the skills in successful proposal writing obtained at the IATP center in Kapan. From December 11 to 15, four volunteers from House of Hope and Faith local nonprofit organization that supports disabled children took part in the seminars led by Peace Corps volunteer Hillary George and IATP Trainer Anna Minasyan.
