Dmitry Munkazhapov and Marina Shcherbakova served as USRVI volunteers at the Jekyll Island Museum in Georgia. Dmitry and Marina are both cultural preservation specialists and welcomed the opportunity to work in the unique geography of Jekyll Island, which is both a historic heritage site and a vibrant seaside community. The two assisted with artifact cataloguing and preservation, while designing a presentation that they presented at the South Eastern Museum Conference. As volunteers, they learned fundraising and outreach techniques that they have already applied to their work back home. Marina said, “Now I have an international experience and contacts in my field. USRVI gave me a good start for future collaboration work with colleagues and other people abroad.”
