Yulia Sagdeeva and Alyona Sergievskaya worked with Citiwide Computer Training Center in Washington, DC. Yulia and Alyona participated in an after-school program for children, where they organized classes to develop students’ creativity, imagination, and intellectual faculties. They also taught a computer-training program for adults from low-income families in the area. Yulia and Alyona became part of the Washington community by attending meetings with local officials to discuss issues related to working with low-income families and participating in the Walk for the Homeless on the National Mall.

Upon her return to Russia, Yulia Sagdeeva utilized the knowledge and experience she gained during USRVI for developing and conducting computer courses at the Youth Organization of German-Russians “Jugendheim” in Izhevsk. She applied and was awarded a USRVI alumni grant and used it to hold 128 hours of computer classes for members of two German-Russian Youth Organizations in Izhevsk. Course participants were able to learn how to use Word, Photoshop, CorelDraw, PowerPoint, FrontPage, theBat, OutlookExpress, and Internet Explorer. One of the course participants, Tatyana, is an editor of the organization’s youth newspaper “Juhei.” These courses taught her computer skills necessary for improving the look of the newspaper.
