Since the beginning of the program, IREX has worked with 38 American and 31 Russian organizations who hosted the volunteers for the duration of the volunteer projects. Host organizations are an integral part of USRVI, as they provide the invaluable opportunity for program participants not only to apply their skills and experience to volunteer projects abroad, but also to learn new techniques in their volunteer field. AID Atlanta is the largest and oldest nonprofit, community-based AIDS service organization in the Southeast.  Its mission is to foster and participate in a broad, compassionate response to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus epidemic through education, service and advocacy.  AID Atlanta's doors are open to anyone with HIV disease in need of comfort and care.

AIDS Action is a national organization dedicated to the development, analysis, cultivation, and encouragement of sound policies and programs in response to the HIV epidemic. They do this through the dissemination of information and the building and use of advocacy on behalf of all those living with and affected by HIV.  AIDS Action collaborates with the greater public health community to enhance HIV prevention programs and care and treatment services; and to secure comprehensive resources on a federal level to address community needs until the epidemic is over.

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP)

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) was created by the Arkansas General Assembly in 1969.  The mission of AHPP is to fulfill the objectives of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 through the identification, preservation, and protection of the cultural heritage of the State of Arkansas. The organization is involved in the following activities: offering grants for rehabilitation of historic courthouses and other structures; working with city governments around the state of Arkansas to foster preservation at  a local level; working with federal government agencies to protect historic resources; working with students and teachers in grades K-12 to instill a preservation ethic in young Arkansans through teaching with historic places; and documenting historic resources in Arkansas.

Family Health International (FHI) was established in 1971, as a private, nonprofit organization. For nearly 20 years FHI has been at the forefront of the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.  FHI has managed USAID’s largest global HIV/AIDS projects, including IMPACT (Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care, 1997-2007). FHI's Institute for HIV/AIDS provides support to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs in more than 65 countries. Its work is complemented by the research on HIV prevention and reproductive health undertaken by FHI's Institute for Family Health, based in North Carolina. Their mission is to strengthen the capacity of resource-constrained countries to prevent HIV/AIDS, provide care and support, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902 by Reverend Edgar James Helms, a Methodist minister in Boston, who was seeking ways to help residents in the city's impoverished South End. Helms collected used clothing and household goods in wealthier areas of the city, and then trained and hired poor people and immigrants to repair the used goods. The donations were resold or given to the people who repaired them. The system worked, and the Goodwill philosophy of "a hand up, not a hand out" was born. The organization was formally incorporated in 1910, providing job skills training programs, and even a rudimentary placement service for people who were unemployed. Today, Goodwill Industries International has 181 autonomous member organizations in the U.S. and Canada, and 45 associate members in 34 countries outside of North America.

In 1989, a coalition of faith communities in the Greater Danbury area responded to the critical needs of individuals and families affected by the HIV/AIDS virus by forming Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury (IAM). IAM is a nonprofit organization providing support services to assist care receivers in meeting the needs of body, mind and spirit while providing critical educational programs that respond to a diverse community. 

Jekyll Island Authority - Museum and Historic Preservation

The Jekyll Island Museum is a Division of the Jekyll Island State Park Authority, an agency of the State of Georgia.  The State of Georgia purchased Jekyll Island in 1947 to develop as a State Park. The Jekyll Island State Park Authority was created in 1950 to guide the development of amenities, residential areas, and provide stewardship of the cultural and natural resources of the island. The Jekyll Island Museum was established in 1954, as a department, and became a Division in 1984.  The Jekyll Island Museum focuses on its Mission – to document, preserve, restore, reconstruct, interpret and provide stewardship oversight of the cultural resources of Jekyll Island.

L.A. National Student Partnerships (NSP) is the nation’s only year-round, student-led volunteer service organization that links people in need with the resources and opportunities necessary to become self-sufficient. Founded by college undergraduates in 1998, NSP operates a national network of drop-in resource centers, staffed by student volunteers from area colleges and universities. Working one-on-one with low-income community members (clients), NSP volunteers provide intensive on-site and referral services, which enable clients to achieve their goals. NSP’s mission is to direct the energy and innovation of young people toward ensuring that all community members have access to the services, opportunities, and attention that they need to pursue employment, self-sufficiency, and personal success.

Prevention First was founded in 1980. It is a statewide nonprofit (501C3) training and information resource center dedicated to the prevention of drug use and related issues such as child abuse, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and juvenile delinquency. “There's an Opinion” wasfounded in April 2000 to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS and organize youth leisure and education programs. Currently, the organization conducts informational and educational campaigns on HIV/AIDS prevention, develops volunteer initiatives, and consults and conducts trainings on HIV/AIDS and drug prevention. The Center conducts its own sociologic research and develops its programs based on the research results. The organization has extensive experience working with international volunteers from Great Britain and Japan.

The Russian Union of Youth is an all-Russia public NGO with representations and branches in 68 regions of Russia. Founded in 1990, the Irkutsk branch of the organization implements different youth programs, including the development of student government and volunteer programs, supporting youth entrepreneurship, and assisting with social adaptation of children from orphanages.

Kazan Institute of Archeology

Kazan Institute of Archeology conducts archeological research on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. The main projects developed and implemented by the organization are led by renowned specialists from Russia and other countries and are conducted in close cooperation and with financial support from governmental structures, educational institutions, organizations and businesses such as Kazan and Mari El State Universities, Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ministry on Youth and Sports Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and other institutions. The institute has extensive experience working with volunteers from other Russian regions, as well as international volunteers.

Medical Association of Chapaevsk

The Medical Association of Chapaevsk was founded in September of 1999, and currently unites all the doctors and medical specialists of the city. The association also attracts specialists from other fields to cooperate on their projects. The main activities of the Association include HIV harm reduction projects, improvement of the quality of life for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), research projects, informational and educational programs, HIV/AIDS and drug prevention programs, and trainings and education for the medical staff and social workers of the city.

Organization for Support to the HIV-Infected People "Krylya"

Krylya (Wings) was founded as a social shelter Delfin (Dolphin) to provide psychological and rehabilitation support to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). The organization now provides social, medical, legal, and psychological support to PLWHA and their families, as well as develops HIV/AIDS prevention programs targeting youth. As a shelter, the organization also supports women and children in crisis situations and promotes programs assisting homeless children.

Public Organization for Handicapped People "Pribaikalski Istok"

Pribaikalski Istok is a public organization founded in 1999 with the aim of creating a social village for people with mental disabilities where they can live and farm as a community. The main goal of the village is to provide social rehabilitation and support to its residents. Currently, the organization is also working on volunteer development projects, particularly developing an international volunteer camp based at the village.

Republican Center on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Fight with Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Buryatia

Founded in 1989, the organization began its first HIV/AIDS prevention program in 1993. Even at that time, the projects were mainly run by volunteers. The Center provides trainings-of-trainers to teenagers and youth who then provide prevention trainings to their peers. The organization is currently working with more than 50 volunteers.

The Komi Regional Branch (KRB) of the Russian Red Cross (RRC) began its activities in the Republic of Komi in 1999. KRB is a charitable, nonprofit organization that provides social, medical and humanitarian aid to people in need. The KRB took part in different international projects including “Polar Sibiria” (2000), “Family Parsel” (2002), “Winter-Summer” (since 2002), “Equal Teaches Equal”, HIV/AIDS and drug use prevention programs among youth and teenagers (since 2003), and many others.

The organization particularly focuses on children and youth in rural areas of the region.

Yaroslavl Regional Public Organization of the Russian Union of Youth was founded with the main goal of working with youth. The organization works on athletic and cultural projects, as well as international youth programs. Among the major programs that the organization is currently working on are: educational programs intended to prepare specialists and professionals for various NGOs, businesses, and governmental institutions; partner volunteer historic and cultural preservation projects with its German sister city Wezlar; joint school projects with the Administration of Yaroslavl Region; and prevention and health programs.

Youth Center for Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Prevention “Vybor” (Choice) is a municipal organization which develops and implements programs to prevent HIV/AIDS and alcohol, tobacco, and drug addiction. The Center also works on the development of trainings for medical and social workers as well as NGO leaders in raising awareness of problems among children and youth. The organization works in collaboration with other social and youth NGOs of the region to develop and implement its social and volunteer programs.

Youth Public Organization “Window to Future”

“Window to Future” began its work in 1999 as a volunteer organization, with the aim of working with teenagers on prevention of different types of addictions. It currently works on volunteer projects and prevention programs at local schools and collaborates with other NGOs. Among the main activities of the organization are prevention, education, and research programs, aimed at delivering consultations and rehabilitation support.
