This case study discusses faculty promotion and performance review in political science departments, using the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and DePaul University as case studies. The careful and impartial review of colleagues’ performance is central to faculty self-governance. The political science department’s procedures for conducting reviews of faculty performance reflect universities standards in reference to teaching, research/scholarship, and service expectations. The case study includes summaries of faculty review procedures at the two US universities, as well as a blueprint of a department constitution for the author’s home university Political Science department.
