Ryan Forbes Morris' bio
Ryan Forbes Morris joined IREX in July 2011 to work on the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) [12] and the Media Strengthening Program for Mozambique (MSP) [13].
Prior to joining IREX, Ryan was a teacher trainer at the Instituto de Formação de Professores do Alto Molócuè in Zambézia, Mozambique [14], providing in-service training to primary school English teachers on lesson planning, student-centered teaching methods, and classroom management. Ryan’s experience also includes serving as a Community and Youth Education Development Volunteer and English Language Instructor in Niger [15]. While in Maradi, Niger, he collaborated with the regional school board to design and implement a series of capacity building workshops for local parent-teacher associations to promote women’s empowerment, literacy, financial transparency, HIV/AIDS awareness, and meeting management techniques.
Ryan also taught English at a secondary school and a youth center and partnered with a community radio station to host a weekly educational radio program for 92,000 listeners in the local language on topics such as family planning, hand washing, nutrition, and malaria prevention. Ryan holds a B.A. in French from Wabash College in Indiana and speaks French, Portuguese, and Hausa.
Ryan played the cello in symphonic orchestra throughout middle and high school.
