Over the past 11 years, Rehema Namarome has advocated for the rights of persons with disabilities in Uganda; she has focused on the rights of deaf women like herself through her role as the Executive Director and a founding member of the United Young Deaf Women Group.
During her CSP fellowship, Rehema worked with Access to Independence [8] in Madison, Wisconsin, to create a resource database for Deaf Unity, a group that works with deaf women who are victims of domestic violence.
Upon returning to Uganda, Rehema implemented her follow-on project which identified and enlisted 60 local, national and international resources for Deaf women and girls and their families who are vulnerable to or victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The resources have been compiled into a database for easy accessibility and use in awareness-raising within Deaf and other communities and to provide legal support to Deaf women victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
